Imaginary Sanctuary

Imaginary Sanctuary: A Parallel Realm of Instinct and Unrest

In Imaginary Sanctuary, I construct a space where sanctuary exists beyond political and geographical constraints—an unfiltered, instinctual state of being. As an immigrant artist, the concept of sanctuary is a lived contradiction, a longing suspended between displacement and belonging.

Through drawing, photography, and documentation, I envision a sanctuary unbound by tangible meanings. Yet, the more I allow instinct to dictate her process, the more the imagined refuge unravels. What begins as a space of solace becomes a volatile terrain of contradictions—a reflection of the emotional turbulence that comes with uprooting and adaptation. My layered imagery and fragmented compositions explore how the body and memory shape perceptions of safety and exile, questioning what sanctuary becomes when it is imagined rather than physical.
